Graphic Novel Reviews: Throne of Atlantis - Aquaman 014-017 | Justice League 15-17

The Story

An accidental attack by United States Forces on Atlantis provokes an attack upon the surface by Orm and the forces of Atlantis. Aquaman and the Justice League try to both fight him off and reason with him, but they are captured and imprisoned in the trench where the flesh eating creatures from the beginning of Aquaman were trapped. There they discover that the creatures have been freed.

On the surface, the backup members of the Justice League fight of Atlantis, but it is the arrival of the main body of the Justice League that turns the tides. Aquaman sides with the surface, against his brother, and together the team manages to defeat Orm, and discover the true cause of the attack.

In the aftermath of the attack, Aquaman tries to keep control of Atlantis as its king, but both his own soldiers, and the people of the surface have no trust for him.

The Story

Steve Trevor and Amanda Palmer decide that if the Justice League were ever to go rogue, the United States would need their own team specifically to counteract the Justice League. So they gather of group of heroes and not-quite-heroes to act as counterparts for certain members of the Justice League.

For Superman they have the Martian Manhunter; for Batman, Catwoman; for Wonder Woman, Katana; for Hal Jordan, Simon Baz; for Flash, Vibe; for Cyborg, Stargirl; for Aquaman, Hawkman.

While they are gathering those characters who have not yet had the invitation extended to them, Green Arrow is on the run from what looks to be the Justice League.

Graphic Novel Reviews: Justice League 012

The Story

The Justice League fights off Graves and the spirits he was using to try and possess them. After finishing him, the league is beset by people questioning their capabilities.

Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman have a falling out, while Green Lantern decides to leave the team and act as the scapegoat in the fight against Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman and Superman share a moment alone, and end up kissing.

The Review
I was reading Justice League back in the early days of the New 52. I figured I'd read everything that had Batman in it, but after I found myself with nothing to say in my reviews, I eventually just stopped reading altogether. I can't really say that this was because the book was no good, it really had more to do with my lack of interest, which just might be the signs that the book was no good.

Graphic Novel Reviews: Justice League 008

Apparently Green Arrow has taken Aquaman's place, because the post New 52 Justice League wants nothing to do with him. Instead of the tired old, "Aquaman can't do anything away from the water" we now get to hear, "Green Arrow is just a guy that shoots arrows, he doesn't even wear a bat costume!"

The plot, as far as it goes, is basically several vignettes of Green Arrow trying to get the Justic League to let him in, and just like the nerdy kid nobody ever wanted on their team, the Justice League come across as a pack of pricks when they ditch Green Arrow every single time. This must really be pissing Green Arrow fans off.

There's something to do with the Martian Manhunter, but I'm not clear when it was supposed to take place. Not much to say this issue really. There is a little bit of a crossover with the Court of Owls storyline, but that only lasts for a page or two before the story moves on. So I guess the rest of the story takes place after the Court of Owls?

There were some funny moments, I'm particularly liking Green Lantern and Batman's interactions. But other than that there's not much I can say. I feel inadequate to really comment on this issue, because I really can't say anything about the plot. As the months pass, chances are I might drop, or pick up, some series depending on whether I feel like I actually have anything to say. Sometimes I can't really say more than, "meh, it was a thing."

So yeah, this was a thing. A fun thing, just not a particularly eventful thing. Yay things.
