Anime Reviews: Bakuman Episode 16 - Wall and Kiss

Mashiro and Takagi think of a concept, that includes all of the things Hattori suggested, for a manga that involves an angel fighting evil angels.  Who kill humans to give themselves more souls to collect and advance their status.

Anime Reviews: Beelzebub Episode 02 - I Became a Gang Leader with a Child

After Oga and Furuichi figure out that Beel only likes macabre things they go up to the roof.  Where Oga tells Furuichi about how Hilda introduced herself to his family.  I won't spoil anything, all you need to know is that the scene is absolutely hilarious, and you need to go watch it now.

Anime Reviews: Beelzebub Episode 01 - I Picked Up the Demon King

Oga Tatsumi tells his friend Furuichi an embellished tale of how he found a large mustachioed man floating down the river and took a baby from inside the man, after the man split open.  The kid gets attached to him and refuses to leave.  The problem is that every time he gets upset and starts crying he electrocutes Oga.  A lot of the first half of the episode is spent trying to calm the baby down.

Anime Reviews: Fairy Tail Episode 62 - Jura, the Tenth Saint

After the battle Natsu can't move due to the damage he took from the poison.  Unfortunately Cobra is not quite finished yet.  Which really isn't surprising in the slightest, considering that none of the Oracion Seis went down without getting back up for one last shot at the protagonist.  Kind of ruins the shock when it happens too often.

Anime Reviews: Bakuman Episode 15 - Debut and Impatience

Hattori explains to Mashiro and Takagi what they need for a good mainstream manga.  Namely good characters, simple, exciting battles, and a cute heroine.  He also mentions that humor is important.

Manga Reviews: March Story

Much like Genkaku Picasso, March Story is very “artsy” (I’m noticing a pattern here Kate), and isn’t something I would normally pick up on my own.  I enjoyed writing this review a bit less than the last one, but that probably has more to do with the fact that Genkaku Picasso, while strange and somewhat dark, is still a comedy, my favorite manga genre.  March Story is a horror, generally my least favorite genre in anything.  How does it hold up against the stacked deck of my preferences?  Read on and find out.

Book Reviews: Blood Rites

When I started reading this series I had no idea that it would become my favorite series of the past few years.  It wasn’t until a few books past this that Jim Butcher cemented his series into my top favorite series, but it was Blood Rites that made me aware that I was reading something special.  The opening scene did more than enough to make this very clear.

Anime Reviews: Fairy Tail Episode 61 - Super Aerial Battle! Natsu vs. Cobra

First thing to note is that this episode there is a new opening theme.  Can't really say what I think of it yet, I'll have to see if it grows on me or not.  I'll possibly do a review of all the opening themes, eventually.  Speaking of which, I should get around to reviewing the second OST.  I'll do that once I figure out how to keep the workload for this blog from being overbearing.

Anime Reviews: Bakuman Episode 14 - Battles and Copying

Mashiro practices developing characters for a battle manga by practicing drawing characters from other manga.  At the same time Nizuma decides he wants to serialize an earlier manga, Crow, instead of the one that was scheduled to be serialized.

Anime Reviews: Fairy Tail Episode 60 - March to Destruction

After Jellal sets the self destruct spell on Nirvana, and on himself, the episode begins with Erza refusing to let him die, telling him that he still has to repent for his sins.  Brain shows up and reveals that the spell Jellal used was one of Brain's own invention, and that it was he that taught it to Jellal in the first place.  Brain uses a backdoor he built into the spell and deactivates it, while leaving the one on Jellal intact.  After doing so he unleashes Nirvana's final form.

Anime Reviews: Bakuman Episode 13 - Early Results and The Real Deal

Apologies for the lack of a title card.  For some reason there wasn't on for this episode.

Miyoshi finally manages to convince Mashiro to send an email to Azuki.  He spends an entire night obsessing over getting the wording just right.  When he sends the email Azuki replies almost immediately with a much smaller email.  The scene is pretty funny, and kind of cute.  Especially as a nostalgic kind of feeling, looking back on worrying excessively over saying something stupid to the one that you like.  Trust me, I know all about saying stupid things.
