And here is the episode I've been waiting for ever since this anime started. The chapter(s) that this episode is based on were what convinced me that the manga would be worth reading. What the heck am I talking about? Well, let's take a look and find out, and maybe, just maybe, you too will decide that this anime is worth your time.
The answer is: Yes. Yes it is.
It starts with Aoi and her two underlings, Nene and Chiaki, discussing Oga and the damage he's done to the school. Aoi, who seems to take her position quite seriously, declares that before he can cause any more damage she will bring the hammer of justice down on Oga.
Furuichi, who is in a good mood for some reason, goes to pick up Oga so they can walk to school. While on the way he tells Oga about how all the girls have come back to school, and that he finally won't have to spend his high school years surrounded by nothing but a bunch of idiot guys. It begs the question, what is Furuichi doing going to that school when he isn't a delinquent. Guess he's just a really big idiot. Unless we have a Cromartie High School situation going on here.
While at school Furuichi continues to obsess over the girls being there. Oga on the other hand doesn't see what the big deal is, since they've always been a co-ed school. I enjoyed this moment since it's one of those rare cases where a shonen anime will break the idiot hero stereotype.
So far so good, now let's see what else the episode has in store for us...
Oh for F&#@'s SAKE Allaindelon!
So yeah...not sure...umm...let's just pretend that never happened.
After escaping from Allaindelon, who is taking the "implied gay" thing and making it blatant (for F&#@'s sake! It was a one time gag in the manga! Did the monkey who wrote this into the script stop reading the manga after that point!?), Furuichi drags Oga around the school looking for Kunieda. Who is walking around the school looking for Oga, while being accosted by the reasons why this school will never be winning any awards for high grade point averages.
I guess BB guns are a nono in Japan? But why supersoakers?
When Kunieda and Aoi finally meet, the latter is surprised to discover that Oga is the same guy that she met at the park the other day. Oga of course doesn't figure out who she is, but Beel seems to be on to something.
Maybe.
Kunieda starts the fight, but Oga dodges all the attacks. Realizing that she's really strong, and that Beel seems to like her, he decides to try and pass him off on to her. By asking her be Beel's mother. Oh yeah, no way to misunderstand that.
Aoi gets flustered and runs off. Later on Nene finds her and tells her not to worry about Oga's behavior. To which Aoi responds by wondering if he's divorced.
Again, a few minor examples of SPPTEFTATRTP, but overall the best episode of the series to date. This was the point I decided to stick with the series, and chances are it will be the same for a lot of people. So if you've made it this far, and skipped the second half of episode six, then I think you'll be along for the ride.
