Anime Reviews: Toriko Episode 06 - The Strongest Wolf That Ever Lived! The Battle Wolf Is Reborn!

The top members of the IGO discuss the mysterious creature that appeared in the cavern lagoon.  They say that it is a new model of GT Robot, employed by the Gourmet Corps.  This corps has already attacked several of the other biotopes, and now are most likely after the Regal Mammoth in biotope one.  Fortunately they've already sent Toriko to go after it himself.

Toriko and Komatsu fly to the island, which has a decidedly Jurassic Park feel to it.  Once they get to the island they travel through the research and processing facility, where extinct species are cloned back to life, and new hybrids are genetically engineered.

They meet the Chief of Biotope One, Mansom, who takes them to see the Colosseum.  There different types of animals fight, so that their capture levels can be determined.  But it's really there for the rich heads of state and important people to gamble on the fight outcomes.  Mansom then explains that the money raised by this is distributed among the more needy member countries of the IGO.  He says that they used to be a part of the UN, but broke off and now exceed UN membership.  Which is a little confusing, because I can't quite figure out whether this is meant to be the real world, or a fantasy world.

The announcer introduces the Battle Wolf, after Mansom tells Komatsu of the legend of the Death Gore.  And I don't know why, but for some reason the way this scene was put together brought chills to my spine.  I guess the Battle Wolf is just that cool, because I can't figure out if it was the voice actors' performances, or the music, or what, but it was just a really well done scene.

The other creatures refuse to fight, they are too intimidated by the Battle Wolf, when Rin calls in, lettin Manson know that her battle fragrance machine is broken, and she won't be able to moderate the amount sprayed into the arena.  When she finds out that Toriko is there she starts gushing, and doesn't pay attention to her machine.  The other animals attack the Battle Wolf, which doesn't fight back and just lets them attack it.

Believing something is wrong Toriko gets into the arena and fights off the wolf's attackers.  And there the episode ends, despite my attempts to keep it going.  Let that be a lesson, black magic is not effective in getting anime to run longer.

Not much to say about this episode, other than that I think it's going to be an amazing arc.  This was my favorite so far in the manga, and I can tell the anime is going to do it justice.

It is also notable that Rin seems to have been prettied up a bit.  I didn't get a view of her whole design, but from what I can see so far it seems that they slimmed her down a bit.  Which is both good and bad.  Personally I really liked her character design the way she appears in the manga, but then again, a pretty girl is a pretty girl.  Even if she is, in fact, a cartoon character.

I just have to say, this series has the greatest episode titles I have ever seen. I hope that there's a burly man yelling the title when it appears on the screen.

If Sergeant Slaughter were still alive he'd be the perfect candidate to do it for when the dub comes out.

But yeah, this series is easily turning into one of my favorites. Leave it to Toei to churn out yet another testosterone laden action fest.
