Introduction
I try not to ship. There is no faster way to ruin a new series than to start creating artificial relationships between characters. This is not an easy thing to do when the writer goes out of her way to make the male and female leads so darn cute!
Oh yeah, and there's some badass fighting.
Plot Summary
The esquires are on a mission at the campus amusement park, waiting for the girls to show up. When Izumo and Shiemi finally do show up, Shiemi is wearing a school uniform since her normal kimono is not appropriate for missions. This is accompanied by the most symbolic use of pudding ever.
Figure it out.
The class gets split into groups, with Shiemi and Rin teaming up, to find a ghost that's haunting the park. Rin and Shiemi wax cute, and come across the ghost. Shiemi chases after him, while Rin is accosted by Amaimon, who steals his sword.
Amaimon unsheathes the sword, releasing Rin's power. Amaimon taunts Rin, and the two fight. Rin cannot match Amaimon's power, until he finally snaps and beats Amaimon, who creates an earthquake that collapses a building on top of Shiemi.
Rin uses his flames to protect Shiemi. The hoody wearing dude from class shows up and fights off Amaimon. Rin slaps Shiemi's hand away when she tries to find out how he got hurt. But at least he apologizes immediately afterwards.
The episode ends with hoody guy revealing himself to be Shura, an exorcist inspector. Also, a woman.
My Opinion
Fortunately the filler was restricted to one episode, and anyone turned off by the last episode will find a welcome relief as the story continues. This episode just had a little bit of everything, some relatively tasteful (and amusing) fanservice, some pairings fanservice, a good fight, and important character development. I can't imagine asking for much more out of an anime. The stakes have been cast, and from here on out things get serious.
This is a thought that occurs to me, though it is not quite yet fully developed. There's something different about this anime, but I haven't been able to figure out what it is yet. It isn't quite like other anime, in a good way, but I'm not sure how to explain it.

I love this episode! LOVE IT! Everything about it except Amaimon. He ruined the Rin&Shiemi cuteness that was doing a number on me. I personally took it well because they mesh together so well to me.
